Jacy Arnold is been ranked one of the best
attorneys under the age of 40 by Law and
Politics' "Super Lawyers." She has
been rated an Oregon Rising Star in Family Law for three years in
a row. Only up to 2.5% of Oregon attorneys are
given the honor.
Jacy specializes in high-conflict custody
cases, complex divorce matters involving
closely-held corporations and considerable
assets, and juvenile court dependency and
termination of parental rights cases.
Attorney Practice Philosophy
Jacy earned her "Super Lawyers"
honor by focusing her family law practice on
client needs and by working harder than the
opposition in case preparation. She credits her
consistent trial record and stellar reputation
with local judges with simply planning for every
case contingency in advance.
Education and Background
Jacy grew up on a farm outside of the town of
Trenton in north-central Missouri. She grew up
helping raise cattle and hogs and assisting with
her family's seasonal horse-powered sorghum mill.
She left her tiny town to attend Truman State
University, a small state college of 6000
students. She graduated magna cum laude
after three-and-a-half years with a B.A. in
political science in December 1997.
She and Mike then worked the following
semester as substitute teachers in rural schools
in the surrounding counties. Jacy spent most of
the semester running a special education class,
focusing primarily on high-conflict autistic high
school students.
In their search for law schools, Jacy's goal
was to escape the oppressive heat of Missouri
summers and the cold winters. After receiving an
offer for a Portland law school to fly them out
to tour the school, they set their sights on
learning about the University of Oregon and the
small town of Eugene as well. Jacy had heard of
Eugene in her youth while attending Kansas City
Royals games with her grandfather. During the
seventh inning stretch, farm team scores would
flash on the screen with the last one always
being the short-season rookie team, the Eugene
Emeralds. On their tour Jacy fell in love with
Lane County and they decided it would be a great
place to raise a family.
During her first year of law school, Jacy was
the only student to work a job while attending
classes. While clerking for a small firm in
Cottage Grove she quickly fell in love with the
practice of law and eagerly anticipated the end
of law school. The next firm she clerked at had a
contract for Cottage Grove city prosecution.
There she got her first taste of trial,
prosecuting a DUII case. She has been at home in
the courtroom ever since.
Employment History
After graduating from law school in 2001, she
worked for a small family law firm in Eugene. She
quickly learned that in order to get more
courtroom experience she had to be the lead trial
attorney on the case. Her impatience led her to
establish Arnold Law Office in 2002. She quickly
became the recipient of high-conflict custody
cases that other attorneys referred to her when
they couldn't settle. Her first year with Arnold
Law Office, she worked a break-neck litigation
schedule having two to three trials set every
single week. She tried a family law case every
week for well over a year, and as luck would have
it, she never lost one of them.
She credits her awesome trial record with
luck; however, it really comes down to her
ability to value a case for settlement. She has
an uncanny knack for sizing up clients, opposing
parties, and witnesses and can usually predict
the outcome of a case with a higher-than-average
degree of certainty. This allows her to counsel
clients on the risks of trial and encourage
settlement when appropriate. If she advises a
client that a position is meritorious and trial
is the only solution, then her legendary work
ethic and hard-driven trial preparation kicks in.
Her stellar reputation with the judges and
other seasoned trial attorneys is due to her
being the most knowledgeable and most prepared
person in the courtroom. That's what sets her
practice apart. It's not fancy trial tactics but
hard work and compassion for her clients and
their children.
